I’m Baz, a versatile professional writer and editor. I was forged in coastal Northern Ireland, tempered on the alcohol-soaked streets of Glasgow, then plunged into the subtropical heat of Brisbane.
I’ve been writing for more than a decade on the arts, feature writing, film reviewing, humour, travel, pop culture and screenwriting.
I work as a senior production journalist at a major metro newspaper and have won awards for my work, including the National Press Club’s Student Journalist of the Year 2006, six nominations and two wins of the Queensland Clarion Award for headline journalism, and a quarterfinalist nod in 2015’s Nicholl Fellowship screenwriting program run by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.
I’m an event MC and erstwhile stand-up comedian.
And as an experienced arts writer, I’m a judge on the panel for the annual Brisbane theatre community’s Matilda Awards
