Welcome!

I’m Baz, a versatile professional writer and editor. I was forged in coastal Northern Ireland, tempered on the alcohol-soaked streets of Glasgow, then plunged into the subtropical heat of Brisbane.

I’ve been writing for more than a decade on the arts, feature writing, film reviewing, humour, travel, pop culture and screenwriting.

I work as a senior production journalist at a major metro newspaper and have won awards for my work, including the coveted Walkley Award for Excellence in Journalism, the National Press Club’s Student Journalist of the Year 2006, eight nominations and four wins of the Queensland Clarion Award for headline journalism, and a quarterfinalist nod in 2015’s Nicholl Fellowship screenwriting program run by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.

I’m an event MC and erstwhile stand-up comedian.

  1. Hi Baz,

What about ya! As a fellow Ulster-Scot living in Brisbane, I have been following your newspaper articles recently with interest. I too have been concerned about where the wee country (Norn Iron) would stand if the “Yes” vote was to get through. Can’t wait to be put out of my misery later today. Fingers crossed the “No” vote and good sense prevails!

    Kind regards,
    Tracy
